We are an official chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) at the University of California, Berkeley. We share the goals and ideals of this society and strive to meet them through our various activities.
We are a student organization that has both a graduate student and undergraduate component. This combined structure allows us to directly interact with one another, having the graduate students encourage and mentor minority undergraduates to pursue graduate degrees and careers in the sciences.
Our Chapter Goals
- To recruit underrepresented undergraduate students into graduate school and careers in the sciences
- To retain underrepresented graduate students in graduate programs in the sciences.
Our Approach
- Create a community in which underrepresented students can feel welcome and can come back to both in times of stress and in social, fun times.
- Create mentorship graduate-undergraduate mentorships to guide undergraduate and give them a personal role model.
- Teach undergraduates about available resources on campus.
- Create a support network for graduate students.
